SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Gardner-Webb volleyball duo of Charissa Coleman and Maya Jeffcoat-Troy have been named to the Wofford Invitational All-Tournament team due to their contributions on the court this weekend in matches against Middle Tennessee State and Wofford.
Coleman had a team-best 30 digs throughout the tournament, averaging 3.75 digs per set. She also added six assists and one service ace. Jeffcoat-Troy had 13 kills on 29 attempts for a .379 attacking percentage. She also collected six total blocks and five digs.
"Maya was the key spark for our victory over MTSU," said GWU head coach Leo Sayles. "She was unstoppable offensively and set up a solid block on the right side, part of our record-setting block party. Charissa has been a solid worker for us. Sometimes the effort of your primary passer can go unnoticed, but she was a critical component in our offense this entire week, and had a great week defensively as well."
The Runnin' Bulldogs opened the Wofford Invitational by defeating Middle Tennessee State in five sets, setting a new school record with 26 total blocks, smashing the previous GWU record of 18. Jeffcoat-Troy sparked the GWU offense off the bench, tallying a team-best 10 kills on 17 swings for a .588 attack percentage. Coleman had 13 digs, three assists, and one service ace.
GWU wrapped up the tournament by taking on host Wofford, falling in three sets. Coleman had a team-best 17 digs, as well as adding three assists, while Jeffcoat-Troy contributed with three kills on 12 attempts, as well as three digs.
Gardner-Webb returns to action this Tuesday evening, hosting Winthrop to open Big South Conference play. The match is slated for a 7:00 pm start time from Paul Porter Arena and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
