
10 Members of 2018 Softball Team Named NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) recently announced their All-America Scholar-Athlete honorees, which featured 10 members of the 2018 Gardner-Webb softball team.
To be named an NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete, student-athletes must have achieved a GPA of 3.5 or better.
Graduating seniors Ashley Wark and Sam Harrell, along with current players Weslyn Almond, Lauren Huffman, Brooke Perry, Lily Pressley, Callie Thornton and Annamarie Warley were all-named to the list. Katie Stettler and Katie Prebble, both of whom played their freshman campaign for the Runnin' Bulldogs were also named All-America Scholar Athletes.
Wark and Harrell both saw significant time in the circle during their senior campaigns.
Wark (Bristow, Va. / Patriot HS) finished the 2018 season with a team-high 17 victories and a 5.02 ERA. In the classroom, she completed the spring 2018 with a 3.76 GPA and an overall GPA of 3.63.
Harrell (Elizabeth City, N.C. / Pastquotank County HS) was credited with four wins and two saves in 28 appearances. She started 17 games last season. Harrell was nearly perfect in the spring 2018 in the classroom, recording a 3.92 GPA. She graduated with an overall GPA of 3.81, earning cum laude honors.
Almond (Ablemarle, N.C. / North Stanly HS) appeared in 51 games as an outfielder, and hit .214. She belted one home run and had 13 RBIs. She was tied for first on the squad with 29 walks. Almond has not yet declared a major and boasted a perfect 4.00 GPA in the spring.
Huffman (Granite Falls, N.C. / South Caldwell HS) intends to major in Exercise Science and had a 3.66 spring GPA. On the field, she split time between third base and the designated player position, appearing in 40 games with 38 starts. She hit .301 with 14 RBIs.
Despite having to sit out the 2018 season after transferring from Purdue University, Perry (Clemmons, N.C. / Purdue University) was one of three Runnin' Bulldogs to have a perfect 4.00 GPA in the spring. She is currently majoring in Middle Grades Education.
Pressley (Dallas, N.C. / Lincoln Charter) appeared in 28 contests, starting eight. She hit .143 for the year and scored 12 runs. In the field, she made 14 putouts. A Marketing major, Pressley recorded a 3.93 GPA for the spring of her freshman year. She boasts a strong 3.96 cumulative GPA.
Thornton (Goldsboro, N.C. / Rosewood HS) saw action in 19 contests and earned the starting nod on 11 occasions. She hit .129 and scored three runs, while swiping a pair of bases. In the field, she recorded 10 putouts and had 39 assists. An Exercise Science major, Thornton recorded a 3.58 spring GPA.
Warley (Mechanicsville, Va. / Florence-Darlington Tech) played in 31 games, starting 19. She hit 189 with three doubles and 9 RBIs. She scored 13 runs and was a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts. In the classroom, Warley had a 4.00 GPA in the spring. She is majoring in English.
Former Runnin' Bulldogs, Katie Prebble (Pomfret, Md. / St. Mary's Ryken) and Katie Stettler (Powhatan, Va. / Homeschooled) were also named to the list.
