ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb volleyball team fell at UNC Asheville in straight sets in Big South Conference action inside the Justice Center on Saturday afternoon.
Gardner-Webb (2-13, 0-4 Big South) dropped all three sets to UNC Asheville (7-6, 2-1 Big South) by scores of 25-14, 25-13, and 25-16. The Runnin' Bulldogs totaled 20 kills on 91 attempts for a .066 hitting percentage, while Asheville collected 54 kills on 106 swings, attacking at a .368 clip.
Maria Emmick had seven kills on 26 attempts to lead the GWU attack, while
Abbey Sprinkle dished out a team-high 15 assists.
Sprinkle also led the 'Dogs with eight digs, while
Hannah Donaldson had three total blocks to lead that effort.
UNC Asheville was led on the attack by Julia Borges with 14 kills, while Kailey Hackett had a match-high 40 assists.
Borges also had 14 digs to lead Asheville, while Hackett and Cecilia Stack each had two blocks.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return to the friendly confines of Paul Porter Arena, hosting Winthrop on Friday, October 11 at 6:00 pm to open a three-match home stand.
