BUIES CREEK, N.C. –
Molly Johnston had a career-best 16 kills to lead Gardner-Webb, but the Runnin' Bulldogs fell in four sets at Campbell in Big South Conference volleyball action Friday evening.
Gardner-Webb (2-19, 0-10 Big South) dropped the tightly contested first set to Campbell (13-9, 7-2 Big South) by a 26-24 score, but would bounce back to claim set two, 25-19. The Camels would respond by taking sets three and four by scores of 25-20 and 25-21 respectively.
The Runnin' Bulldogs totaled 52 kills on 154 attacks to post a .156 hitting percentage on the evening, while Campbell had 53 kills on 139 swings, hitting at a .223 clip.
Johnson led the GWU attack with 16 kills on 42 attempts to set a new career high.
Abbey Sprinkle dished out a season-high 24 assists to lead that effort.
Charissa Coleman led the 'Dogs with 18 digs, while
Alexandria Roycraft,
Maya Jeffcoat-Troy, and
Hannah Donaldson each had three total blocks.
The Campbell attack was led by Sarah Colla, who had a match-high 19 kills on 34 swings. Emily Mitter led the Camels with 23 assists.
Elyse Gross had a match-high 22 digs, while Melody Paige had a match-high six total blocks.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return to action tomorrow afternoon at Hampton. The match is set for a 2:00 pm start time at the Boo Williams Sportsplex.
