As good as her high school career has been, we believe that with her attitude and work ethic, her best years lie ahead of her."

Coach Cole stated, "Ramsey is a very athletic pitcher, outfielder and hitter. "She's a pure lefty, and we believe that she will contribute in many ways. I first saw her as a pitcher, but the more I have watched her the more impressed I have been with her outfield skills, her ability to hit and her athleticism. Ramsey will compete; and will be a definite asset to the program."
Katie Mitchell (Four Oaks, N.C. / South Johnston HS) comes to Gardner-Webb University from South Johnston High School where she has earned numerous accolades on the field for South Johnston and head coach Ashley Ennis. Mitchell plays travel softball for the Williamsburg Starz Gold coached by Junior Pearce. She intends to major in sport management at Gardner-Webb.
"Katie is a very talented softball player," said Cole. "She is capable of playing second base and the outfield. She is both quick and fast, and because of this she will be an asset both offensively and defensively. We are very blessed to have Katie select Gardner-Webb to receive her college education and play softball."

In 2018, the Cavaliers played one state playoff game, and increased that total to three last season with an appearance in the Sweet 16. Short played club softball for the Carolina Curve 18U squad which is under the direction of head coach David Wacaster.
In the classroom, Short has a stellar 4.64 GPA and has taken classes at Isothermal Community College. "I feel like I have known Baylee her entire life," said Cole. "I know I haven't, but it sure seems like I have. Baylee was a bat girl for us back in 2011. Baylee is another pure lefty. She plays the outfield, is athletic, and has good speed. Baylee is a well-rounded young lady who does extremely well in the classroom, is very involved in politics, and is destined to do great things."

In the classroom, Deaton has a stellar 4.2 GPA and intends to major in biology. She is a member of the Kings Mountain Chapter of the National Honor Society and Beta Club and is also the Career and Technical Education Honor Society Vice President.
"Summer is another local young lady who comes to Gardner-Webb as a pitcher," stated Cole. "She has had an outstanding career at Kings Mountain High School, where over three years her career ERA is 2.80. Summer is also very strong in the classroom. Although a very quiet young lady, Summer is a competitor who knows that it takes hard work to be successful."
The Gardner-Webb softball program will begin their 2020 campaign on Friday, February 7 when it hosts the Gardner-Webb University tournament, which is the first of four tournaments that will take place in Brinkley Stadium in 2020.
