Runnin’ Bulldogs Defeat Hampton, 3-1, Saturday Afternoon

HAMPTON, Va. –  Hannah Donaldson totaled a career-high 18 kills, while Abbey Sprinkle provided a career-high 26 assists as Gardner-Webb earned a 3-1 victory over Hampton in Big South Conference volleyball action at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton, Va.
 
Gardner-Webb (3-19, 1-10 Big South) picked up its first conference win of the season by scores of 25-21, 21-25, 25-21, and 25-13, totaling 51 kills on 126 attempts for a .270 hitting percentage.  Hampton (6-15, 1-9 Big South) had 48 kills on 136 swings for a .140 hitting percentage.
 
Blocking provided to be the biggest difference in the matchup as the 'Dogs racked up 11 total blocks, while the Pirates only had three on the day.  GWU also had six more service aces than their opponent.
 
Donaldson led the Gardner-Webb attack with a career-best 18 kills on 27 swings, attacking at a .556 clip.  She also had one solo block and five block assists for a team-high six total blocks.
 
Sprinkle provided 26 helps on the day, leading GWU in that category while setting a new PR.
 
Charissa Coleman had nine digs to lead the 'Dogs, while Ashley Downer had a career-best six service aces.
 
Hampton was led on the attack by Gabby Calloway, who had 12 kills on 42 attempts.  Lena Reed-Petracek provided a match-high 33 assists.
 
Calloway also led the Pirates in digs with 11, while Genevieve Reynolds and Alyah Barkley each had two total blocks to lead that effort.
 
The Runnin' Bulldogs return to Paul Porter Arena for their final homestand of the season, beginning Friday, November 8 against UNC Asheville.  The match is slated for a 6:00 pm start time with live coverage on ESPN+.
