BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb volleyball team fell to visiting UNC Asheville in straight sets in Big South Conference volleyball action on Friday evening inside Paul Porter Arena.
Gardner-Webb (3-20, 1-11 Big South) fell to UNC Asheville (12-10, 6-5 Big South) by scores of 31-29, 25-21, and 25-20. The Runnin' Bulldogs totaled 42 kills on 108 attempts for a .241 hitting percentage, while UNC Asheville collected 48 kills on 108 swings for a .315 hitting percentage.
Molly Johnston led the GWU attack with 12 kills on 32 attempts, followed by
Kylee Garrison with nine smashes. Maddi Riggs and
Abbey Sprinkle each provided 16 assists.
Charissa Coleman had a team-high 12 digs, and
Alexandria Roycraft provided a team-best five individual blocks.
UNC Asheville was led offensively by Julia Borges, who had a match-high 20 kills on 36 swings. Kailey Hackett provided a match-best 30 assists.
Kasey West led Asheville with 10 digs, while Julia Loveday had three total blocks to lead that effort.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return to action tomorrow at 2:00 pm, hosting USC Upstate in the final home bout of the 2019 season. Prior to the contest, the senior class of
Charissa Coleman,
Maya Jeffcoat-Troy, Molly Johnson, and
