Molly Johnston and
Maya Jeffcoat-Troy each had double-digit kills on the afternoon, yet Gardner-Webb would fall to visiting USC Upstate by a 3-1 score in GWU's final home match of the season.
Gardner-Webb (3-21, 1-12 Big South) dropped set one to USC Upstate (7-17, 4-8 Big South) by a 25-18 score, but would answer by claiming set two, 25-21. After the brief intermission, the Spartans would take the next two sets, 25-19 and 25-21.
The Runnin' Bulldogs totaled 48 kills on 150 swings for a .127 attacking percentage, while USC Upstate had 49 kills on 130 attempts, hitting at a .215 clip.
Johnston led the GWU attack with 11 kills, followed by Jeffcoat-Troy with 10 smashes.
Abbey Sprinkle dished out a team-high 25 assists.
Charissa Coleman led the 'Dogs with 14 digs, while
Alexandria Roycraft had three solo blocks and four block assists to pace GWU at the net.
Emily Russell had 18 kills to lead the USC Upstate attack, while Annalisa Mendoza had a match-high 41 assists on the day.
Milkenzie Young-Mullins led the Spartans with 14 digs, and McKenna Kirkpatrick had three solo blocks and two block assists to lead that effort.
Gardner-Webb wraps up the 2019 season on Friday, November 15 at Winthrop. The match is slated for a 6:00 pm start time with live coverage on ESPN+.
