Gardner-Webb Drops 73-46 Decision On The Road Sunday At Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Jaheam Cornwall led four men in double figures, but Gardner-Webb had zero points off its bench in a 73-46 loss at Virginia Tech Sunday afternoon.

The Runnin' Bulldogs (3-8) lost their third in a row and played their second game without All-Conference guard Nate Johnson.

Cornwall led the way with 14 points, Jose Perez added 12 and starters Ludovic Dufeal and Eric Jamison, Jr., each had 10 points for the Runnin' Bulldogs. The team's bench combined to go 0-of-11 from the floor.

After falling behind 11-4 early, Gardner-Webb went on a 7-0 run to tie the game. It was all Virginia Tech for much of the game from there, with the Hokies leading 34-24 at intermission. Virginia Tech opened up its big lead with a 13-3 run midway through the second half – taking a 55-31 advantage on a pair of Isaiah Wilkins free throws with 11:05 remaining.

Gardner-Webb's shooting was cold once again, with the 'Dogs finishing the game just 16-of-55 from the floor (29.1 percent) and 7-of-28 from long distance (25.0 percent).

Virginia Tech also had four men in double figures, led by Landers Nolley's 18 points. Wilkins added 13 points, Hunter Cattoor scored 11 points and Tyrece Radford posted 10 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

The Hokies shot a strong 13-of-32 from distance (40.6 percent) and made 25-of-57 shots overall (43.9 percent). Virginia Tech also held a 42-34 edge on the backboards.

Gardner-Webb returns home for its next game, hosting Bob Jones as part of its annual Education Day on Thursday, December 19. Opening tip is set for 11:00 am in Paul Porter Arena.
