KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Gardner-Webb junior forward Oskar Wang was named a Third-Team All-South Region selection by the United Soccer Coaches and was one of seven Big South Conference men's soccer players to receive the honor.
Wang (Neskollen, Norway / NTG Kongsvinger) was also a First-Team All-Big South Conference honoree and received First-Team All-State University Division recognition from the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA).
The Neskhollen, Norway native led Gardner-Webb with eight goals, six assists and 22 points.
Five of Wang's eight goals came in non-conference play, and he recorded a hat trick in the Runnin' Bulldogs' home opener against the Furman Paladins on September 6th. Wang scored in the 32nd, 36th and 81st minutes in the defeat.
Wang also contributed goals in non-conference action against Georgia State (Sept. 17) and George Mason (Sept. 21), while scoring in league play vs. Radford (Oct. 5), UNC Asheville (Oct. 26) and Presbyterian (Nov. 2).
The junior standout had six assists on the season, including a pair of multi-assist matches – first against UNC Asheville (Oct. 26) and again in the Runnin' Bulldogs' Big South quarterfinal win over Radford (Nov. 10).
Wang ranked in the top-10 among Big South student-athletes in eight statistical categories, including third in points (22), tied for third in goals (8), fourth in points per game (1.16) and tied for fourth in goals per game (.421).
Wang found himself among the top-100 players in all of NCAA Division I in total points (64th), points per game (77th), total goals (79th) and total assists (87th).
He joins six other Big South Conference athletes on the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region team. The Campbell trio of Gideon Betz, Ian Rees and Thibaut Jacquel were Second-Team selections, CU's Moses Mensah and High Point's Keegan Meyer and Ilias Kosmidis were named to the Third-Team.
