
Gardner-Webb Lacrosse Has Four Honored With Big South Postseason Awards

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb lacrosse had four student-athletes recognized with postseason honors Thursday, as the Big South Conference released its 2019 selections.
Talen Francis (Kennesaw, Ga.), Abby Hanscom (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Monique Martin (Tyngsborough, Mass.) each earned second-team All-Big South Conference honors. Lauren Deaver (Falls Church, Va.) earned a spot on the Big South's All-Academic Team.
Francis finished her sophomore season with solid numbers once again, ranking second on the team with 29 goals scored. She added seven assists, 10 caused turnovers, 31 ground balls and a career-high 56 draw controls at the midfield position.
Hanscom saved her best for the final season of her collegiate career. The senior attack set Gardner-Webb's single-season record with 42 goals and added 14 assists to pace the team with 56 points. Both her goals (4th) and points (5th) ranked in the top-5 among league members.
Hanscom, who is a three-time All-Big South selection, also had 29 ground balls and 26 draw controls to her credit on the season.
Martin, a graduate student in 2019, was again one of Gardner-Webb's anchors on defense. She earned All-Big South accolades for the third time in her career and finished the season with 22 caused turnovers and 32 ground balls in 16 games played.
Deaver, who carries a 3.87 cumulative GPA in exercise science, also saw action in 16 games this season. The sophomore finished the season with 16 goals and six assists. The midfielder added 27 ground balls and seven caused turnovers in a solid campaign.
Gardner-Webb, under first-year head coach Jessie Aguglia, finished with a school-record six victories in 2019. That included a record five wins in Spangler Stadium.
