Akbarizadeh, Smallwood Take Home Big South Track & Field Weekly Accolades

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb redshirt senior Natasha Akbarizadeh and junior Julian Smallwood claimed both of the Big South Conference Field Athlete of the Week awards for their efforts at this past weekend's Terrier Relays, as announced today by the league office.
Akbarizadeh (Maple Ridge, British Columbia) set a new Gardner-Webb record with a mark of 62.16 meters in the hammer throw at the Terrier Relays, also setting the all-time record for the event. Her toss also ranks fourth all-time in Big South history.
Smallwood (Buffalo, N.Y.) set a new personal record in the shot put with a distance of 16.31 meters, placing second at the Terrier Relays, with a mark that ranks best among all Big South competitors this season.
Gardner-Webb returns to action on Friday, April 12, taking part in the two-day Charlotte Invitational at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center in Charlotte, N.C.
