CHARLOTTE, N.C. –
Kylee Garrison had a team-high six kills, yet the Runnin' Bulldogs dropped a straight-set decision to Charlotte in the opening matchup of the 2019 Charlotte Invitational Friday morning.
Charlotte (1-0) took all three sets by scores of 25-8, 25-6, and 25-15, collecting 39 kills with a .405 attack percentage. Gardner-Webb (0-1) managed 16 kills on 98 attempts, but had 28 attacking errors for a -.122 attacking percentage.
Garrison led the GWU attack with six kills on 34 swings.
Molly Johnston and
Maria Emmick followed with three smashes of their own.
Garrison also led the 'Dogs in digs with seven. Newcomers
Lauryn Rocassin and
Ashley Downer followed with six digs each. Rocassin also had a team-best six assists.
Hannah Donaldson had one solo block, while Johnston and
Alexandria Roycraft both had a block assist.
Tyra Galloway led the 49ers offensively with 13 kills on 18 attempts. Mackenzie Reaume provided a match-high 23 assists.
Yumi Garcia led Charlotte with a match-best 21 digs, while Galloway also had six block assists to lead the 49ers.
Gardner-Webb returns to action today at 4:00 pm, facing Eastern Kentucky as the Charlotte Invitational continues.
