CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb volleyball team wrapped up action at the 2019 Charlotte Invitational Saturday morning by falling to Kent State in straight sets at Halton Arena in Charlotte, N.C.
Gardner-Webb (0-3) dropped all three sets to Kent State (2-1) by scores of 25-11, 25-11, and 25-17.
GWU totaled 22 kills on 97 swings for the contest, attacking at a .021 rate. The Golden Flashes tallied 46 smashes on 101 attempts for a .347 hitting percentage.
Kylee Garrison led the Runnin' Bulldog attack, collecting seven kills on 29 swings.
Maria Emmick followed with six kills.
Abbey Sprinkle provided a team-high 14 assists.
Sophia Bolden led the 'Dogs with nine digs, while
Gwyn Brooks had a pair of block assists.
Kent State was led in kills by Jacqlyn Caspers with 10, while Alex Haffner led everyone in assists with 22.
Erin Gardner racked up a match-best 23 digs, while Caspers also led all blockers with five total blocks.
Gardner-Webb returns to action next weekend, taking part in the Tiger Brawl, hosted by Memphis. The Runnin' Bulldogs kick off action against host Memphis at 11:00 am on Friday, September 6 before facing UT Martin at 5:30 pm that evening. GWU wraps up action Saturday, September 7, squaring off against Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 11:00 am.
