Runnin' Bulldogs Picked Fifth in Big South Preseason Poll

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced the men's soccer preseason poll today, and Tony Setzer's Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs were picked fifth out of nine teams.
Gardner-Webb is coming off a 4-11-1 season in 2018 that earned the 'Dogs the No. 5 seed in the Big South Conference tournament where they fell to eventual champion Campbell in the first round.
This season, Runnin' Bulldogs return key offensive pieces in Oskar Wang (Neshollen, Norway / Vormsund NTG Kongsvinger), who was a First-Team All-Big South selection, Magnus Moldjord (Drammen, Norway / Drammen VGS), and Petter Johansen (Toensberg, Norway /Wang Toppidrett Toensberg). Wang and Johnasen combined for five goals and two assists, while Moldjord record one goal and added three assists.
Defensively, Simen Olsen (Oslo, Norway / Bjerke VGS) returns for his final season in the red and black, while sophomore goal keeper Daniel Husa (Begen, Norway / Fyllingsdalen) is expected to see time in goal. Husa stopped 45 shots in 11 appearances (10 starts) last season.
High Point (74 points, 5 first-place votes) was selected as the Big South preseason favorite. The Panthers fell to James Madison in the first-round of last year's NCAA Tournament.
Radford (68 points, 2 first-place votes) and Campbell tied for second in the voting. Campbell lost to NC State in last season's NCAA tournament. Radford sophomore Amadou Diop was named the Preseason Attacking Player of the Year, while Campbell senior Gideon Betz took home Preseason Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Presbyterian (44 points) was fourth, while Gardner-Webb (42 points) earned the final spot in the top-five.
Longwood (32 points), Winthrop (30 points), USC Upstate (26 points) and UNC Asheville (21 points) were selected sixth through ninth.
The Big South coaches voted on the poll and were not able to vote for their own teams. Points were distributed based on a weighted system with first-place votes receiving nine points, followed by eight points for second-place and so forth.
