SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Gardner-Webb totaled a season-high 15 blocks, but would drop a four-set decision at Wofford to wrap up play at the 2019 Wofford Invitational at the Richardson Indoor Stadium in Spartanburg, S.C.
The Runnin' Bulldogs (1-8) dropped the first two sets to Wofford (5-6) by scores of 25-21 and 25-21, but would fight back to claim the third set, 25-23, before dropping set four, 25-17.
GWU collected 28 kills on 115 attempts throughout the match, attacking at a .096 rate. The Terriers totaled 61 kills on 158 swings for a .158 attacking percentage.
Hannah Donaldson led the 'Dogs with nine kills on 16 attempts, and also added a match high eight total blocks, earning All-Tournament honors.
Abbey Sprinkle and
Lauryn Rocassin each had 11 assists to lead GWU, while
Sophia Bolden had a match-high 20 digs.
Wofford was led on the attack by Riley Coonan with 14 kills, while Lorissa King provided a match-high 40 assists.
Emily Durman led the Terriers with 15 digs, and Coonan had a team-best six total blocks.
Gardner-Webb returns to action Friday, September 20, hosting East Carolina in the first home matchup of the season. Action is set to begin at 6:00 pm from Paul Porter Arena with live coverage on ESPN+.
