BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Three Runnin' Bulldogs had double-digit kills as Gardner-Webb earned a four-set win over visiting Alabama A&M on Saturday afternoon inside Paul Porter Arena.
Gardner-Webb (2-9) took the first two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-23 before Alabama A&M (4-10) fought back to claim set three, 25-20. GWU bounced back to claim the tightly contested fourth set, 28-26, to seal the overall match win.
Maria Emmick had a career-high 15 kills to lead Gardner-Webb on the afternoon, while
Hannah Donaldson and
Alexandria Roycraft each added ten kills to lead the GWU attack. Overall, the Runnin Bulldogs totaled 50 kills on 174 swings for a .126 hitting percentage.
Lauryn Rocassin added a season-best 41 assists on the day.
Defensively,
Ashley Downer led the team with a career-best 22 digs, followed by
Charissa Coleman with 16. Roycraft and Donaldson also led the team with eight total blocks each.
Alabama A&M was paced by Terra Brooks with a match-high 17 kills on 53 swings. Alana Cox followed with 12 smashes on 38 attempts. Overall, the visiting Bulldogs had 48 kills on 166 swings for a .108 hitting percentage.
Megan Evans contributed with a team-high 38 assists.
Maci Battle led AAMU with 25 digs, while Maya Evans paced the squad with five total blocks.
Gardner-Webb returns to action on Friday, September 27, opening Big South Conference play by hosting Charleston Southern at 6:00 pm. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
