BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. –
Alexandria Roycraft had a team-high eight kills and eight total blocks to lead the Runnin' Bulldogs, but GWU would fall to visiting Charleston Southern in straight sets in the Big South Conference opener on Friday evening.
Gardner-Webb (2-10, 0-1 Big South) fell to the Buccaneers (9-6, 1-0 Big South) by scores of 25-8, 25-19 ,and 25-16. The Runnin' Bulldogs totaled 22 kills on 95 attempts, attacking at a .063 rate, while CSU totaled 42 kills on 87 swings for a .333 attack percentage.
Roycraft paced the GWU attack with smashes on 18 attempts, while also having one solo block and seven block assists to lead that effort.
Gwyn Brooks led the 'Dogs with 19 assists, while
Charissa Coleman had a team-high eight digs.
Charleston Southern's offense was led by Brooke Monssen , who racked up a match-high 15 kills on 26 swings. Emilee Karelse totaled 36 assists to lead that effort.
Skylar Blackmon led the Buccaneers with 16 digs, while Paige Reagor had a team-high four total blocks.
Gardner-Webb returns to action tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 pm, hosting Presbyterian. The match can be seen on ESPN+.
