Gardner-Webb Swimming Starts Season Strong In Tri-Meet Against UNC Asheville And Lenoir-Rhyne

Asheville, N.C. – On Saturday afternoon, Gardner-Webb Men's and Women's Swimming competed in their first meet of the season at the Buncombe Aquatic Center at UNC Asheville. In the Tri-Meet, the women faced off against UNC Asheville and Lenoir-Rhyne, with the men taking on Lenoir-Rhyne. 
 
The women's squad picked up a 181-78 win over the Bears, but fell to UNC Asheville by a 176-85 score.  The men's team earned a 163-97 decision over L-R.

In the 200 Medley Relay on the women's side, the Runnin' Bulldog A squad (Delaney Willette, Sydney HallJessi Snover, and Audrey Robinson) placed third with a time of 1:49.74, the B squad (Mary Traylor, Abby Surley, Paris Binard, and Alexandra Haasser) placed fourth with a time of 1:51.53.
 
For the 200 Medley Relay on the men's side, the A squad (Brady Fields, Jonathan Frye, Cullen Fields, and Tim Bennett ) placed first with a time of 1:34.28, and the B squad (Landon Clark, Daniel Baldwin, Steven LaFlamme, and Drew Mintz) placed third with a time of 1:37.04.
 
As for the 1,000 Free, Ellie Eckert placed fifth coming in at a finish of 11:26.31. 
 
For the men, Brady Vann took first in the 1,000 Free with a time of 10:13.69, with fellow teammate Garrett Despres coming in with a time of 10:28.06.
 
In the 200 Free, Alyssa Church claimed fourth with a time of 2:01.35, with her teammates Emma Gelatt taking sixth with a 2:03.53, and Anna Frye taking seventh with a finish of 2:20.89.
 
In the men's 200 Free Christian Jann took second with a smoking 1:48.33, while teammates Sam Goldey took fourth with a 1:50.74 at the finish, and Will Anderson in fifth with a 1:53.43.
 
As for the women's 100 Back, Delaney Willette took second place with a finishing touch of 1:00.68, while teammates Alaina Smith came in fourth with a time of 1:02.50, and Laura Wakeley took sixth with a finish of 1:05.00 at the touch.
 
The men swept second through fourth in the 100 Back, Landon Clark taking second with a 52.56, Tim Bennett took third with a 52.67, and Bryan Dunne took fourth with a time of 54.65.
 
Jessi Snover took first place for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the women's 100 Breast with a finishing time of 1:08.22, with teammates Sydney Hall placing fourth with a 1:09.60, and Abby Surley placing sixth with a time of 1:10.81 at the finish.
 
In the men's 100 Breast, Jonathan Frye also claimed victory for GWU with a time of 59.21, with teammates Daniel Baldwin placing third with a 1:02.06, and Zach Bennett took fifth with a time of 1:03.58.
 
Mary Traylor claimed the throne for the women in the 200 Fly, finishing with a time of 2:07.53.
 
For the men's 200 Fly, they had a sweep from first to third place. Chase Mattingly took home first place with a time of 1:56.58, while teammates Colby Childress took second with time of 1:58.26, and Cullen Fields took third respectively with a time of 1:58.77.
 
In the women's 50 Free, Audrey Robinson took home third with a time of 25.00, while teammates Alexandra Haasser took fourth with a 25.03, and Anna Frye took sixth with a time of 25.94.
 
Brady Fields took second in the 50 Free for the men, finishing with a time of 21.43, and teammate Kevin Plewniak took third with a time of 22.33. Drew Mintz took sixth with a finishing touch of 22.6 for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
 
Alyssa Church placed fourth in the women's 100 Free with a time of 55.71, and teammate Alexandra Haasser came in a close fifth with a time of 56.07.
 
As for the men's 100 Free, Tim Bennett took second with a time of 47.89, with teammate Chase Mattingly following behind in a close third with a time of 48.24.
 
Mary Traylor took home second place in the women's 200 Yard Back, with teammate Delaney Willette placing third with a time of 2:14.24.
 
Landon Clark took home a first place win in the men's 200 Yard Back, with a time of 1:55.70 at the finish. Teammates Bryan Dunne took third with a 2:00.65, and Christian Jann took fourth with time of 2:00.96.
 
In the women's 200 Yard Breast, Abby Surley took fourth place with a time of 2:34.81, Kailey Conklin placed fifth with a time of 2:37.36, and Sydney Hall placed sixth with time of 2:37.72.
 
The men had another one two three sweep in the 200 Yard Breast, with Jonathan Frye claiming first with a time of 2:14.44, Zach Bennett placed second with time of 2:18.67, and Justin Conklin placed third with finishing time of 2:19.35.
 
As for the women's 500 Free, Ellie Eckert placed fifth with a time of 5:31.25, and fellow teammate Elley Parker placed sixth with time of 5:39.58.
 
Brady Vann placed second in the men's 500 Free with a time of 4:59.41, Colby Childress followed in fourth place with a time of 5:05.52, and Garrett Despres took fifth with a time of 5:06.66.
 
Jessi Snover claimed yet another victory for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the women's 100 Fly coming in with a finish of 58.14.
 
For the men's 100 Fly, yet again had a one two three sweep as Cullen Fields took first with a time of 52.11, Brady Fields took second with a time of 52.98, and Steven LaFlamme took third with a 54.05 at the finish.
 
In the women's 200 Yard Individual Medley, Mary Traylor claimed a first place victory with a time of 2:11.06, with teammate Abby Surley coming in fifth place with a 2:17.66.
 
Chase Mattingly took second place in the men's 200 Yard Individual Medley with a time of 1:57.27, Christian Jann took third place with a 2:01.74, and Colby Childress came in fourth with a time of 2:04.20.
 
In the women's 200 Yard Free Relay, the A Squad (Audrey RobinsonJessi Snover, Alexandra Haasser, and Alyssa Church) placed second with a time of 1:40.14, while the B squad (Emma Gelatt, Paris Binard, Sydney Hall, Eliza Gunson) placed fourth with a time of 1:43.00
 
The men's A Squad (Brady Fields, Tim Bennett, Landon Clark, and Drew Mintz) took home a big win for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the men's 200 Yard Free Relay with a finishing time of 1:25.77. The B squad (Sam Goldey, Jonathan Frye, Cole Hinkes, and Cullen Fields) placed third with time of 1:30.47 at the finish.
