
Fields, Traylor, and Mattingly Take Home Big First Place Finishes Over Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, FL. – On Saturday morning Gardner-Webb Swimming dove into their first dual meet of the new year against the Florida State Seminoles at the Morcom Aquatic Center in Tallahassee, FL.
The GWU Men dropped to the Noles' 188-90, while the Women's team fell to the FSU women 226–48.
To start off the meet in the Women's 200 Medley Relay, the team of Kayla Smith, Sydney Hall, Paris Binard, and Audrey Robinson took fourth place with a time of 1:49.05.
In the Men's 200 Medley Relay, the squad of Brady Fields, Jonathan Frye, Cullen Fields, and Tim Bennett were beat out by the Seminoles by less than a second. Causing the squad to take second place with a time of 1:33.33.
Ellie Eckert took home fourth place for GWU in the Women's 1,000 Free with a finishing touch at the wall of 11:110.7.
In the 1,000 Free for the Men, Sam Goldey placed fourth for the Runnin' Bulldogs, clocking in just under the ten-minute mark with a time of 9:55.26.
For the Women's 200 Yard Free, Alyssa Church took home sixth place with a time of 1:58.55. While her fellow teammate and incoming transfer Adrianna Barone placed seventh time a time of 1:59.35.
Chase Mattingly took home a solid third place finish for Gardner-Webb in the Men's 200 Free, finishing with a time of 1:43.13. Followed closely behind by Tim Bennett, placing fourth in the event with a time of 1:44.17.
In the Women's 100 Back, Kayla Smith had a finishing touch on the pad of 59.73 to take home a fifth-place finish for GWU in the event.
Brady Fields struck gold with a first-place finish for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the Men's 100 Back, winning the event with a time of 52.04, with Landon Clark following right behind in second place with a time of 52.26.
As for the Women's 100 Breast, Sydney Hall had a respectable fourth place finish with a time of 1:08.70. With her teammate Abby Surley finishing fifth place with a time of 1:09.49.
In the Men's 100 Breast, Jonathan Frye placed third, finishing just under the one-minute mark with a time of 58.25.
Mary Traylor smoked the competition in the Women's 200 Fly, taking home a first-place finish over the Noles' with a time of 2:06.46.
As for the Men's 200 Fly, Cullen Fields took home a fourth-place finish with a time of 1:55.02. While teammate Colby Childress took home fifth in the event with a time of 1:55.27.
Alyssa Church took home fourth place in the Women's 50 Free with a time of 25.27 at the wall for GWU.
For the Men's 50 Free, Brady Fields took home third with a time of 21.80 at the finish, and Drew Mintz followed suit in fourth place with a time of 21.95.
In the Women's 100 Free, Alyssa Church had a fifth-place finish for the Runnin' Bulldogs with a time of 54.76.
Drew Mintz led GWU in the Men's 100 Free with a respectable fourth place finish, with a finishing touch of 48.02.
Delaney Willette took home fourth place in the Women's 200 Back, where she finished with a time of 2:10.86.
For the Men's 200 Back, Landon Clark took home second place while touching the wall with a 1:53.60.
In the Women's 200 Breast, Abby Surley placed fourth for the Dog's with a time of 2:32.30 at the finish.
Jonathan Frye had a second-place finish for the Men in the 200 Breast, punching in with time of 2:07.38.
For the Women's 500 Free distance event, Ellie Eckert went 5:25.04 to take home fourth place for Gardner-Webb.
Sam Goldey took home a smooth second place finish, Crushing in the Men's 500 Free with a finishing touch of 4:47.50.
Paris Binard finished fourth in the Women's 100 Fly, clocking a sub-minute time at 59.49.
In the Men's 100 Fly, Tim Bennett took home second place with a finishing touch of 50.59 for the Runnin' Bulldogs.

Chase Mattingly took home a big first place win in the Men's 200 IM with a time of 1:55.64, with teammate Daniel Baldwin taking second place in the event with a time of 1:55.90.
In the last event of the meet, the Women's Squad of Alexandra Haasser, Kayla Smith, Audrey Robinson, and Alyssa Church placed fourth for GWU with a time of 1:40.96.
In the Men's 200 Free Relay, the squad of Tim Bennett, Daniel Baldwin, Landon Clark, and Drew Mintz placed third with a time of 1:26.90 at the finish.
Gardner-Webb Swimming will be back in action on Saturday, January 30th in Atlanta, Ga., taking on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
