BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb wrestling team is set to take part in the 2020 Southern Conference Wrestling Championship on Sunday as the squad looks to earn berths to the 2020 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships.
Competing at 125 pounds will be
Will Edmiston, who was seeded seventh for the tournament. Edmiston posted an overall record of 12-10 and was 4-2 in dual matches, including 1-2 against SoCon opponents.
Trevon Majette earned the No.2 seed at 133 pounds after going 6-3 overall, joining the 'Dogs midway through the year. He was 5-3 in dual matches, including 5-2 against SoCon foes, and earned wins by fall over defending champion Codi Russell of Appalachian State and Nathan Orosco of The Citadel.
At 141 pounds,
Brandon Bright is seeded sixth. He posted an overall record of 11-18 on the year, including 6-8 in dual matches and 5-3 against SoCon foes.
Anthony Schiess is seeded eighth at 149 pounds with a 3-16 overall record.
At 157 pounds,
Christian Trimble is the No. 8 seed, going 1-4 on the year.
RJ Mosley claimed the No. 2 seed at 165 pounds with an overall record of 21-13, including an 8-4 record in dual bouts and was 4-2 against SoCon foes. Throughout the year, Mosley took three matches by fall and had a pair of tech falls, and was named to the SoCon's All-Freshman team earlier this week.
At 174 pounds,
Evan Schenk will be the No. 5 seed after closing out the year with three straight wins at that weight. He was 5-3 overall at 174 pounds, including 3-2 against SoCon opponents.
Samuel Mora enters the tournament as the No. 5 seed at 184 pounds. Mora finished his freshman campaign with a 4-4 record at that weight, including a 3-2 mark against SoCon competitors.
Roderick Davis will be the No. 6 seed at the 197-pound weight class. Davis finished the regular season with an overall record of 16-16 and had a pair of dual wins against SoCon opponents.
At 285 pounds,
Gabriel Pickett will be the No. 8 seed. Pickett finished the year with four wins, including a fall over VMI's Solomon Harris.
The 2020 SoCon Wrestling Championship, hosted by Appalachian State University, begins Sunday, March 8 at 10:00 am at the Holmes Convocation Center.
