GWU’s Smith, Young Earn Spots on Big South Conference Men’s Indoor Track & Field All-Decade Team

CHARLOTTE – Gardner-Webb men's indoor track and field placed two men on the Big South Conference All-Decade Team presented by Hercules Tires. The team was announced Wednesday afternoon by the league office.
Jordan Smith (Chesterfield, Va.) and Alex Young (LaVergne, Tenn.) represented the Runnin' Bulldogs on a team that features the top performers in the conference from 2010-2019.
A 15-person committee of Big South Conference administrators served as the official voting panel to determine the All-Decade Team, with fan voting comprising 20 percent of the overall total.
Smith, who competed for GWU from 2013-2018, was a three-time conference champion and earned All-Conference honors on six occasions. Smith claimed the Big South crown in the shot put in 2015 and 2018, as well as in the weight throw in 2018.
His mark of 20.33 meters in the weight throw at the 2018 Big South Championships ranks third all-time in league history, while his mark of 16.67 meters in the shot put at the 2016 Big South Championships sits at tenth on the conference's all-time list.
Young competed for the Runnin' Bulldogs from 2013-2014, taking a pair of titles and earning three All-Conference spots. Young won the weight throw in both 2013 and 2014, setting the Big South's championship record in 2013 with a distance of 20.72 meters.
His career best mark of 20.95 meters in the weight throw ranks second all-time among Big South competitors, and he sits in eighth on the all-time list in the shot put with a mark of 16.95 meters. Young also earned All-American honors in 2014, competing at the NCAA championships, placing 13th with a mark of 20.05 meters.
