Gardner-Webb Baseball Opens Fall Practice This Weekend

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb baseball program is set to officially begin fall practice Friday afternoon with scrimmage play at Bill Masters Field at John Henry Moss Stadium.

The program has been divided into four separate teams that will compete on Fridays and Saturdays for the next six weekends, leading up to the Dawg Bone World Series on November 6-7.

Information regarding team rosters and how to follow each scrimmage can be found on the team’s official Twitter account, @GWUBaseball.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs bring a wealth of experience to the diamond this year, along with a highly touted freshman class that is garnering attention nationwide.  Collegiate Baseball Newspaper named the 2020 recruiting class as one of the top classes in the nation, and Perfect Game ranked the class 55th in the nation.

Perfect Game also announced the top freshman joining the Big South Conference this year, ranking Bobby Alcock, Lenny Washington, Pete Capobianco, and Diego Santiago among the league’s top-21 newcomers.

Several upgrades to the Gardner-Webb baseball facilities have taken place during the offseason.  The home bullpen along the third base line has been expanded and includes a new Plyo wall, equipment, storage space, and a memorial space for former GWU catcher Shea Harris, who passed away this past January.

Other upgrades include updated wall graphics throughout the Masters Athletic Complex, honoring past and present Runnin’ Bulldogs.  The lobby and hallways feature images throughout the past six decades, while the team room highlight wins over Power Five conference programs and MLB Draft selections. Inside the locker room, imagery evokes the core principles of the Gardner-Webb baseball program – Selfless, Relentless, Blue Collar.
