BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Gardner-Webb took the opening set of Sunday's match, but would drop the following three sets to fall to Presbyterian in Big South Conference action inside Paul Porter Arena on Valentine's Day.
Gardner-Webb (1-3, 1-3 Big South) claimed the opening set by a score of 25-20, but Presbyterian (1-3, 1-3 Big South) would take the remaining sets by scores of 25-18, 25-20, and 25-12 to take the overall win.
The Runnin' Bulldogs totaled 38 kills on 165 attempts, attacking at a .073 clip, while the Blue Hose totaled 58 smashes on 159 swings, posting a .201 hitting percentage.
Mikah McIntosh led the 'Dogs with 12 kills on 44 swings, while
Tori Weatherley dished out 28 assists.
Sophia Bolden led GWU with 19 digs, while
Alexandria Roycraft led the team with seven total blocks.
Presbyterian was led on the attack by Erin Cooke with a match-high 19 kills, while Sierra Jones led her team with 24 assists.
Trinity Williams and Anna Hewitt each had 21 digs to lead the Blue Hose, and Allie Wright led on the block with five total stops.
Gardner-Webb returns to action Wednesday evening at USC Upstate. First serve is slated for 6:00 pm in Spartanburg, S.C.
