BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb lost 7-0 to Georgia Southern on Saturday afternoon to fall to 1-5 on the season.

"We started very slow in doubles but came back and had the opportunity to win the first point," said Head Coach Mike Griffith.

Doubles action started with Sebastian Harris and Cathal Butler losing 6-1 in the #2 position. Victor Putter and Chrisjan Van Wyk won the #1 flight 6-4 to force the doubles point to come down to the last match. Georgia Southern clinched the doubles point when Valentin Dun and Carter French defeated Breno Plentz and Stefano Puga 7-5.

"Singles effort was way better than the last match, but it was still not good enough," said Griffith.

Georgia Southern won all six singles matches. Van Wyk lost in the #2 position 6-4, 6-3. In the #6 flight, Butler fell 6-4,6-3.

Georgia Southern clinched the match when Tao Castillo won against Harris 6-2, 7-5.

"We have to keep playing matches, fortunately, we have a lot more time to improve, but we need to aggressively take what our competition is giving us, and, if we do, we will get awarded," said Griffith.
