Runnin’ Bulldogs Drop Three-Set Decision to UNC Asheville Saturday Afternoon

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb volleyball team fell in three sets to visiting UNC Asheville in Big South Conference action inside Paul Porter Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Gardner-Webb (2-5, 2-5 Big South) dropped each set to UNC Asheville (1-4, 1-4 Big South) by scores of 25-18, 25-23, and 25-16.
The Runnin' Bulldogs totaled 37 kills on 123 attempts for a .106 hitting percentage, while the visiting Bulldogs collected 33 kills on 101 swings, hitting at a .208 rate. Service errors proved to be costly for GWU, as the team had 12 miscues on the serve, compared to just five by Asheville.
Audrey Gun paced the GWU attack with 12 kills on 24 attempts, followed by nine kills by Kylee Garrison. Tori Weatherley dished out a team high 21 assists.
Sophia Bolden and Garrison each had 12 digs to lead Gardner-Webb, while Delaney McCullough had four total blocks to lead that effort.
UNC Asheville was led by Peyton McClinton with 12 kills on 29 swings, with Grace Volk leading the way with a match-high 29 assists.
Kasey West had 16 digs to lead Asheville, while McClinton and Volt each had three total blocks to lead their squad.
Gardner-Webb and UNC Asheville wrap up the weekend series tomorrow at 2:00 pm inside Paul Porter Arena.
