Smallwood Breaks School Record In Men’s Shot Put On First Day Of Winthrop Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C. – On Friday afternoon Gardner-Webb competed in the first day of the Winthrop Invitational, which was showcased by Julian Smallwood breaking the school record that he set just two weeks ago.
Callie Rhea took home first place for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the women's javelin by hitting a mark of 33.42 meters, which marks a personal best for Rhea.
In the men's hammer, Kenny VanVorst placed third by hitting a mark of 56.78 meters. Joshua Fischer placed fifth by hitting a mark of 55.42 meters, which marks a personal best for him.
As for the women's high jump, Khalilah Conway placed seventh by hitting a mark of 1.50 meters.
Austin Evans placed fifth in the men's triple jump by hitting a mark of 13.47 meters.
In the men's shot put, Julian Smallwood placed second for Gardner-Webb by hitting a mark of 17.31 meters, which is a personal best for Smallwood, and a new program record as well. Josh Fischer placed sixth by hitting a mark of 15.56, which is a personal best and a top eight program record.
Taylor Hotchkiss placed fourth in the women's long jump by hitting a mark of 5.26 meters, which is a personal best for her.
Chase Thornhill took second for the 'Dogs in the men's 200 meters with a time of 21.96 at the finish.
As for the men's 800 meters, Patrick Sastre placed fourth overall with a time of 1:57.79 at the finish.
Amy Prug finished a the women's 5,000 meter with a time of 19:08.80, which is top nine mark in the programs history.
Taliah Wade hit a personal best in the women's hammer by hitting a mark of 45.96 meters.
Hannah Mitchell placed ninth in the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:20.16, which is a personal best for her.
Gardner-Webb Track and Field will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the Winthrop Invitational.
