March 07, 2021 | Men's Soccer
FARMVILLE, Va. – On Sunday afternoon Gardner-Webb Men's Soccer (3-3, 1-2) took down the Longwood Lancers (0-3-1, 0-2-1) in Big South Conference play. The final score of the match was 3-2, Gardner-Webb.
This win over the Lancer's marks the first conference win of the season for the Runnin' Bulldogs, and their third overall this year.
Longwood put up points on the board first just after the 20-minute mark, but GWU's Ryan Madondo answered shortly after off of a pass from Abel Gebrekiros to make it a tie game just 25 minutes into play.
In a tough battle on the pitch, there was no scoring until later in the 77th minute, as Longwood scored to give the Lancers a leg up. However, Ryan Madondo answered for Gardner-Webb yet again off the foot from Dylan Dominguez, tying the game at 2-2.
Just six minutes later in the 85th minute of play, Gebrekiros scored the game winning goal for the 'Dogs.
Daniel Husa spent 90 minutes in-between the goal posts for Gardner-Webb, having just two goals against and one save for Gardner-Webb.
The Runnin' Bulldogs paced the Lancers with 16-10 shots, with seven of those shots on goal for GWU.
Gardner-Webb men's soccer will be back in action on Sunday, March 14th, taking on the Presbyterian Blue Hose. Kick-off is slated for 3:00 PM at Greene-Harbison Stadium.
