GREENSBORO, N.C. – On Saturday Gardner-Webb Track and Field traveled to North Carolina A&T to compete in the 2021 Aggie Invitational.
Callie Rhea placed fourth in the women's javelin throw by hitting a mark of 35.72 meters, which marks a personal best and a ninth overall best in program history.
In the women's pole vault,
Louise Schmidtgen took seventh place overall by hitting a mark of 3.40 meters. Teammate
Sophia Smith followed in eighth place by also hitting a mark of 3.40 meters, which is a personal best for her.
As for the women's shot put,
Jaden Finch placed seventh by hitting a mark of 13.48 meters. This is a personal best for Finch and a new top four mark in program history.
Kenny VanVorst placed second for Gardner-Webb in the men's hammer throw by hitting a mark of 55.88 meters, and
Josh Fischer placed seventh by hitting a mark of 49.83 meters.
Nate Wonsley took home the gold for the Runnin' Bulldog's in the men's shot put by hitting a mark of 14.91 meters.
In the women's hammer throw,
Taliyah Wade placed eighth by hitting a mark of 39.17 meters in the event.
As for the women's 1,500-meter run, Ashley Evenson ran a personal best time of 5:06.81, Camile Sykes ran a personal best of 5:10.69, and
Amy Prugh ran a personal best time of 5:22.14.
In the women's 400-meter dash,
Amira Austin ran a personal best time of 59.66 seconds, and
Kelsey Houser ran a personal best by clocking in a time of 1:01.37 at the finish.
Chase Thornhill took fourth place in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 46.95 seconds at the finish line. Thornhill currently leads the Big South in the event, and is top 25 in the NCAA East Region.
In the men's 800-meter run
Ethan Bentley finished with a time of 2:00.19, which marks a personal best for him.
As for the women's 200-meter dash,
Amira Austin ran a personal best time of 26.58 seconds.
The meet was shortened due to rain which cancelled part of the shotput, hammer, and 4X400 meter relays.
Gardner-Webb Track and Field will be back in action on Saturday, April 17th at the USC Open.
