BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – On Saturday afternoon Gardner-Webb Men's Soccer fell to Big South Conference opponent USC Upstate in overtime. The final score was 2-1, USC Upstate.
"We had some good looks tonight, but it's tough to win when you only take two shots on goal", said Head Coach
Tony Setzer. "It always hurts to lose a conference match, but we will regroup and get ready for Campbell on Thursday."
The Runnin' Bulldogs took an early advantage at the 14-minute mark as
Kharrel Medza scored the first goal of the matchup.
Just two minutes later, the Spartans put one in-between the posts to make it a tie game, and eventually sending the match into overtime.
In overtime, Gardner-Webb committed a foul that would cost them the match. As the foul allowed Upstate's Corvino to take a shot which ended the game in a Gardner-Webb loss just two minutes into the overtime period.
USC Upstate paced the game in shots, taking a total of 20 with just 12 of those on goal.
Ben Schade spent the full 100 minutes between the posts, accounting for ten total saves on the night.
Gardner-Webb Men's Soccer will be back in action on Thursday April 8
th, as they take on Campbell at Greene-Harbison Stadium. Game time is set for 4:00 PM.
