Julian Smallwood Takes Silver In Men’s Shot Put On Day Two of Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championship

HIGH POINT, N.C. – On Tuesday afternoon Gardner-Webb Track & Field competed in the second day of the 2021 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
In the women's 1,500 meters, Faith Parandhamaia ran a personal best time of 5:00.30, which also marks a new top 10 time in program history. Teammate Camile Sykes also finished the event with a personal best time of 5:07.38.
Khalilah Conway placed sixth in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.79, which marks a personal best and a new top 6 time in program history.
As for the women's 400-meter, Amira Austin took eighth with a time of 58.08, which marks a personal best for her.
Chase Thornhill finished fifth in the men's 400-meter by clocking in a time of 48.07 at the finish. Teammate James Hinton ran a personal best time of 50.97 in the event.
In the women's 100-meter, Sarianna Miranda-Rosado ran a personal best time of 12.69 seconds.
As for the men's 100-meter, Xzavier Lambert finished the event with a personal best time of 11.07 seconds.
Hannah Mitchell finished the women's 800-meter with a personal best time of 2:18.18.
In the men's 800 meters, Ethan Bentley ran a personal best time of 1:58.11.
Khalilah Conway placed sixth for Gardner-Webb in the women's 400-meter hurdles by finishing with a time of 1:05.62.
Austin Buzzard took sixth in the men's 400-meter hurdles by clocking in a time of 57.17 seconds.
As for the men's 200-meter, Chase Thornhill placed sixth overall by finishing with a time of 21.55 seconds.
Jaden Finch took home eighth place for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the women's shot put by hitting a mark of 12.57 meters.
Ryan McGuffin took third in the men's long jump by hitting a mark of 7.11 meters.
In the men's shot put, Julian Smallwood took home a big second place finish for the Dogs' by hitting a mark of 17.65 meters. This marks a personal best for Smallwood, and further cements his number one spot on the top 10 list in the program. Josh Fischer placed fifth in the event by hitting a mark of 16.22 meters, and Nate Wonsley took eighth by hitting a mark of 15.00 meters.
Sophia Smith took fifth place in the women's pole vault by hitting a mark of 3.49 meters, which marks a personal best for her, and teammate Skyela Amsberry took sixth by hitting a mark of 3.19 meters.
As for the women's Javelin, Callie Rhea took fifth place by hitting a mark of 35.39 meters. This marks a personal best for Rhea, which is also a tie for the top 8 mark in program history.
In the women's heptathlon, Taylor Hotchkiss took fourth place with a total of 4,172 points. This marks a personal best for Hotchkiss as well as new top mark in program history. In the women's long jump Hotchkiss placed fourth by hitting a mark of 5.19 meters, she placed fifth in the women's javelin with a mark of 23.24 meters, and placed third in the women's 800 meter with a time of 2:33.59.
Gardner-Webb Track & Field will be back in action tomorrow, May 12th for the third and final day of the 2021 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championship.
