JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – On Wednesday afternoon
Kenny VanVorst,
Julian Smallwood and
Chase Thornhill represented Gardner-Webb by competing in the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida.
In the men's hammer throw,
Kenny VanVorst hit a mark of 56.27 meters, which is just 3.96 meters off of his personal best that he set at the 2021 Big South Outdoor Championship on May 10
th.
Julian Smallwood moved up to 35
th overall in the men's shot put by hitting a mark of 17.20 meters. Smallwood's performance today was just .45 meters off of his personal best which was set two weeks ago at the Big South Championship meet.
Chase Thornhill placed 39
th overall and finished 6
th in his heat in the men's 400-meter dash. In tonight's race Thornhill clocked in a time of 47.55 seconds at the finish line. Today was Thornhill's second career appearance in the 400 meter at the NCAA East Prelims, as his first appearance was in 2018.
