Wigness Adds Additional Duo to Runnin’ Bulldogs Softball Squad

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb Head Softball Coach Bailey Wigness announced the addition of transfers Bridgette Strobl and Alexa Key on Tuesday afternoon.
Bridgette Strobl comes to GWU as a transfer from the University of Northern Colorado where she represented the Bears as a catcher for two years. The Highlands Ranch, Colorado native started 14 and played in a total of 21 games. While playing for the Bears, Strobl maintained a batting average of .158, and a 1.000 fielding percentage. This past season Strobel received 2021 Big Sky Academic All-Conference honors.
"Bridgette is going to be great for our bullpen," said Head Coach Bailey Wigness. "She will work for our pitchers and push them to be their best, in games and in practice. You can't ask for anything more than that in a catcher. I am so excited to see how Bridgette will help GWU Softball for years to come."
"I could not be happier that Alexa Key is now a Runnin' Bulldog," said HC Wigness. "It is another full circle moment for me. We grew up in the same small town in Arizona, and Alexa understands the grind and what it takes to make it. She has had an outstanding career at South Mountain Community College and will help our lineup tremendously. She is a gritty player, the type of player we want at Gardner-Webb."

Alexa Key comes to Gardner-Webb as a transfer from South Mountain Community College, where she played in the outfield for two years. During her time with the Cougars, Key played in a total of 61 games, had a batting average of .435, and had 23 RBI.
