Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Drops Matchup To South Carolina, 1-0

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Gardner-Webb men's soccer team took a quick trip to the palmetto state to take on the University of South Carolina at Stone Stadium on Tuesday night. The Gamecocks took the 1-0 victory over the Runnin' Bulldogs.
 
"I have to give a lot of credit to South Carolina," said head coach Tony Setzer. "They are a really good team and were able to hold us off offensively. Now it is time for us took refocus and prepare to face conference opponent High Point on Saturday afternoon."
 
South Carolina's Jordan Matthews scored the lone goal at the 35-minute mark, which then became the eventual game winner, sealing the win for the Gamecocks.
 
Three yellow cards were distributed during tonight's game, two of thoese going to USC's Adam Luckhurst and Harrison Myring, while just one was given to GWU's Sebastian Reventlow.
 
The Runnin' Bulldogs paced the night in shots with seven total, with a handful of players taking one shot each, Owen Zaldivar and Sebastian Reventlow each had one on goal. The defense held the Gamecocks to just five registered shots.
 
GWU led the match in corner kicks with eight, while USC took only half as many.
 
The 'Dogs committed 15 fouls throughout the match, with the Gamecocks having just nine.
 
Mallel Rios spent the full match in-between the posts for the Red and Black, recording just one goal against and one save in the match.
 
GWU will be back in action on Saturday, October 2nd as it hosts High Point in conference play at Greene-Harbison Stadium. The match is slated to start at 4 pm.
