Patrick Sastre Claims Gold In 800-Meter Run On Final Day of Brant Tolsma Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Gardner-Webb track and field team wrapped up its final day at the second annual Brant Tolsma Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
In the women's one-mile run, Hannah Mitchell shaved six seconds off of her personal best by finishing the race with a time of 5:20.52. Mitchell's mile is also a new top-6 program record.
As for the men's 400-meter dash, Chase Thornhill claimed gold for the Runnin' Bulldogs by finishing with a time of 48.70 seconds. Sean Amour finished fifth with a time of 50.35 seconds, which is a new top-6 program record. James Hinton ran a personal best of 51.18 in the event.
In the women's 800 meter run, Faith Parandhamaia finished with a personal best of 2:27.34 at the finish line.
Patrick Sastre took first-place for the 'Dogs in the men's 800-meter run by finishing with a time of 1:53.38, which is a new program record. The previous record held by Marlon Greenwood (1:53.76) has stood by almost 20 years to date. Joe Waller hit a personal best of 2:02.05 in the event as well.
In the men's 3,000 meter run, Ryan Morita hit a new personal best time of 9:14.06 in the event, which is a new top-10 program record.
In the men's 4X400 meter relay, the squad of Chase Thornhill, Sean Amour, James Hinton, and Jesse Pittman placed third with a time of 3:20.27 at the finish line. The relay squad set a new top-4 program record.
As for the men's high jump, Eliel Cuesta took fourth by hitting a mark of 1.8 meters.
Skyela Amsberry recorded a new personal best in the women's pole vault by hitting a mark of 2.85 meters in the women's pole vault.
Julian Smallwood placed sixth overall in the men's shot put with a mark of 16.47 meters.
Track and field will be back in action on Friday February 4th, as the 'Dogs are set to compete in the ETSU Buccaneer Invite.
