FARMVILLE, Va. – Gardner-Webb and Longwood went 90 scoreless minutes in a 0-0 draw Saturday night.
Owen Zaldivar, Odal Brown,
Kyle Mabwa, and Jaylen Orr led with two shots each for a Gardner-Webb offense that took 13 on the night. The second half saw their best scoring opportunities as they attempted eight shots and took three corners. Unfortunately, they were unable to find the back of the net.
Javier Ramirez faced eight shots and posted three saves in the draw. The shutout was good for his third of the season. Ramirez' record went to 6-3-3 on the year.
Brown,
Omar Boudaka, and August Guinle played 90 minutes each and led the charge for a Gardner-Webb back line that kept the Longwood offense off the scoreboard.
"It was unlucky that we were unable to put one away. I thought we created some good opportunities," said head coach
Tony Setzer. "I was very proud of our defense tonight and I am hoping we can carry some of that momentum into Wednesday."
The tie gave the Runnin' Bulldogs an important point in the Big South Standings to bring them to a total of 10. They are currently tied with Radford for fourth place with one game remaining in the regular season schedule.
Gardner-Webb is next in action Wednesday, November 2, when they will host Campbell. The match is set to begin at 5:00 p.m. from Greene-Harbison Stadium as the Runnin' Bulldogs look to punch their ticket to the conference tournament.
