Gardner-Webb Comes Up Short In 5-Set Thriller At Presbyterian Saturday Night

CLINTON, S.C. – Returning to the court for the second night of a back-to-back, Gardner-Webb dropped a five-set heartbreaker to Presbyterian on Saturday in Big South action inside the Templeton Center.
The Runnin' Bulldogs won sets one and four by scores of 25-16 and 25-22, respectively. The Blue Hose took sets two (27-25), three (25-19) and five (15-12) to ultimately claim the victory.
Gardner-Webb was led by a trio of career offensive performances by senior Kylee Garrison and freshmen McKenna Timmerman and Morgan Hornaday. Garrison posted 23 kills, Timmerman had 16 and Hornaday dished out 57 assists, all career-highs. Garrison hit .228 and added nine digs and three blocks, Timmerman hit .455 with a career-high four blocks, while Hornaday narrowly missed out on a double-double with nine digs.
Yet another career outing for the Runnin' Bulldogs, senior Delaney McCullough also posted a career-high with eight blocks (one solo) to go along with nine digs. Sophomore Avery Cole also posted nine kills, while Mikayla Logan finished in double digits with 13 on just 24 attacks for a .375 clip. She also had four blocks. Sophia Kotsovolos capped off the night a team-high with 25 digs, followed by 12 from Kayla Hawkins and 11 from Sophia Bolden.
As a team, Gardner-Webb attacked at a .268 clip, its second highest mark of the season. Its 76 assists and 19 blocks were also second most, while GWU's 83.0 total points were a new season high.
Gardner-Webb will be back in action when it returns to Boiling Springs for a pair of home matches next weekend inside Paul Porter Arena. The Runnin' Bulldogs will host Radford on Friday night at 6 p.m. followed by High Point on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
