Box Score BELMONT, N.C. – Gardner-Webb captured wins in four of six singles matches and won the doubles point Friday afternoon to beat Belmont Abbey by a 5-2 score on the road.

The Runnin' Bulldogs (4-4) have a quick turnaround, hosting Kennesaw State on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 as part of a busy Spring Family Weekend in Boiling Springs.

"Belmont Abbey is a very good team and showed why they are the preseason favorite in their conference," said head coach Mike Griffith. "Overall I was pleased with the win and we are ready for another test on Saturday at home."

Gardner-Webb wrapped up the doubles point quickly, with the No. 1 tandem of Connor Enslin and Sebastian Harris taking a comfortable 6-2 win. The No. 3 pairing of Chrisjan Van Wyck and Numa Lemieux-Monette also cruised to a 6-2 win to secure the early 1-0 team lead.

Gardner-Webb pushed its advantage to 2-0 after a win by Eduardo Dias (6-0, 6-1) at No. 3 singles. Connor Enslin extended the lead with a dominant win at No. 6 singles (6-1, 6-1) and freshman standout Alex Lepine secured the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles. 

The Crusaders (2-3) picked up a win at No. 5 singles, but Gardner-Webb responded with a hard-fought 4-6, 6-2, 10-4 win at No. 1 singles by Chrisjan Van Wyck.

Gardner-Webb has now won four of its last five matches and are undefeated at home in 2022.
