Gardner-Webb Tops High Point For 6th Straight Win, 62-53

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's basketball team edged High Point on Tuesday night inside Paul Porter Arena, with a final score of 62-53. 
 
Tonight's win over the Panthers marked the sixth straight for the Runnin' Bulldogs, as well as their fourth sweep of a Big South opponent this season. The six-game win streak is GWU's longest of the season. 
 
Gardner-Webb (13-13, 11-4) shot 34.5% (19-for-55) from the field, 25.0% (4-for-16) from beyond the arc, and 83.3% (20-for-24) from the charity stripe. The Runnin' Bulldogs capitalized off of 24 points in the paint, 20 points off of turnovers, along with 11 fast break and bench points. 
 
High Point (12-12, 9-4) shot 35.7% (20-for-56) from field-goal range, 9.5% (2-for-21) from three-point range, and 64.7% (11-for-17) from the free-throw line. The Panthers capitalized on 36 points in the paint and 13 points off of turnovers. 
 
The reigning Big South Player of the Week, Alasia Smith, led the 'Dogs with 16 points, 11 rebounds, four steals, and three blocks. Tonight marks Smith's fourth consecutive double-double (11th of season, 14th of career), which matches her previous streak of four this season at the beginning of conference play. 
 
Jhessyka Williams recorded 15 points, 13 rebounds, six assists, three blocks, and one steal for the Runnin' Bulldogs. Tonight was the ninth double-boule of the season for Williams (11th of career).
  Next up, Gardner-Webb will head up to Buies Creek, North Carolina to face Campell on Saturday, February 19th at 2 p.m.
