Cameron Donoghue Takes Gold In Men’s Indoor Heptathlon On First Day Of Buccaneer Invite

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - On Friday the Gardner-Webb track and field team competed in the first day of the ETSU Buccaneer Invite, which was capitalized by several big finishes and a handful of personal bests.
Khalilah Conway placed fifth overall in the women's indoor pentathlon. Conway ran a time of 9.78 in the 60-meter hurdles, 1.52 meters in the high jump, 9.05 meters in the shot put, 4.21 meters in the long jump, and 2:40.94 in the 800 meters.
Cameron Donoghue took home the gold in the men's indoor heptathlon. Donoghue ran a 7.41-second 60-meter dash, hit a mark of 6.23 meters in the long jump, hit a mark of 12.00 meters in the shot put, hit a mark of 1.97 meters in the high jump, ran a time of 8.92 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, hit a mark of 3.83 meters in the pole vault, and ran a time of 2:54.27 in the 1,000 meters. Donoghue broke the previous school record in the heptathlon, with his high jump marking new all-time top record. Donoghue now leads the Big South in the event as well.
In the women's weight throw, Jaden Finch placed third by hitting a mark of 16.03 meters. Karmen Taylor (14.74 meters) and Taliyah Wade (13.65 meters) both recorded personal bests in the event.
Ryan McGuffin placed second for GWU in the men's long jump by hitting a mark of 7.13 meters.
In the women's pole vault, Sophia Smith placed fifth by hitting a mark of 3.30 meters and Saylor Abbott placed seventh by hitting a mark of 3.00 meters.
Nate Wonsley put up a new personal best of 14.02 meters in the men's weight throw.
In the women's 400 meter dash, Kendall Reece threw down a new personal best time of 1:06.10.
Chase Thornhill placed second in prelims of the men's 200 meter with a time of 22.00 seconds.
In the women's 200 meter, Brianna Payne (26.45), Alena Ivanov (26.65), and Amira Austin (26.76) all posted new personal bests.
Track and Field will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, February 5th for the final day of the Buccaneer Invitational.
