ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Gardner-Webb captured a big road win over UNC Asheville inside Kimmel Arena on Saturday afternoon, with a final score of 89-77, Gardner-Webb.
GWU led for over 38 minutes of the matchup, and its biggest lead of the day was 19 points.
Gardner-Webb (9-13, 7-4) shot 40.0% (28-for-70) from the floor, 31.6% (6-for-19) from beyond the arc, and 87.1% (27-for-31) at the charity stripe. The Runnin' Bulldogs capitalized off of 36 points in the paint, 18 fast break points, and 14 second-chance points.
UNC Asheville (7-15, 2-9) shot 38.2% (26-for-68) while in field-goal range, 26.3% (5-for-19) from three-point range, and 83.3% (20-for-24) at the free-throw line. The Bulldogs scored 38 points in the paint and 12 second-chance points in today's matchup.
Lauren Bevis had a strong showing for the 'Dogs, as she put a team-high 29 points (7-11 FG, 3-5 3PT, 12-13 FT). Alasia Smith followed with 20 points (9-14 FG, 1-3 3PT, 1-2 FT), eight rebounds, three steals, with a single block and assist.
Jhessyka Williams locked in her seventh double-double of the season (ninth career) by putting 17 points on the board, alongside 12 rebounds.
Lyrissa Deans had herself a day on the hardwood, as she grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds under the net.
Women's Basketball will face UNC Asheville again on Monday, February 7, but this time inside the friendly confines of Paul Porter Arena. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and the action will stream live on ESPN+.
