Cameron Donoghue Takes Gold In Men’s Decathlon At 49er Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb opened the outdoor season on Friday afternoon at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center on the Campus of UNC Charlotte.
Cameron Donoghue took a big first place finish for the 'Dogs in the men's Decathlon, winning the event with 6,469 points, beating out the competition by over 650 points. Donoghue ran the 100-meter with a time of 11.51, hit a mark of 5.89 in the long jump, hit a mark of 12.23 in the shot put, hit a mark of 1.91 in the high jump, ran a time of 50.66 in the 400-meter, ran a time of 16.12 in the 110-meter hurdles, hit a mark of 35.04 in the discus, hit a mark of 3.70 in the pole vault, hit a mark of 45.65 in the javelin, and ran a time of 4:39.04 in the 1,500-meter.
In the women's hammer throw, Autumn Drayton placed second for the Runnin' Bulldogs by hitting a mark of 47.87 meters. Jaden Finch took fifth-place in the event by hitting a mark of 45.69 meters.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday, March 25, as they are set to compete in the Winthrop Classic.
