Gardner-Webb Competes In Day One Of Winthrop Classic

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Gardner-Webb track and field competed in day one of the Winthrop Classic on Friday afternoon, registering several big finishes and personal bests.
Jesse Pittman placed fifth in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.70 seconds at the finish line, which is a new top six all-time program record.
Brianna Payne (26.30), Alena Ivanov (26.39) and Amira Austin (27.01) all ran personal bests in the women's 200-meter dash.
As for the men's 200-meter dash, Chase Thornhill placed third with a time of 22.10 seconds at the finish. Teammate Sean Amour ran a personal best time of 22.45 seconds in the event.
In the women's hammer throw, Karmen Taylor placed sixth by hitting a mark of 48.98 meters, which is a new personal bet for her. Autumn Drayton placed sixth by hitting a mark of 47.70 meters.
Josh Fischer earned a second-place finish in the men's hammer throw by hitting a mark of 52.75 meters, teammate Nate Wonsley placed sixth by hitting a mark of 45.03 meters.
In the women's pole vault, Sophia Smith placed fourth by hitting a mark of 3.29 meters, teammate Saylor Abbott followed in fifth with a mark of 3.04 meters.
Ryan Mcguffin placed third in the men's long jump by landing a distance of 7.05 meters, teammate Cameron Donoghue hit a personal best of 5.99 meters.
As for the men's javelin, Donoghue placed third by hitting a mark of 43.77 meters.
Gardner-Webb will be back in action tomorrow for the final day of competition at the Winthrop Classic.
