GWU Falls 12-8 at Campbell on Wednesday Evening

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Fightin' Camels improved to 5-0 in the Big South on Wednesday evening, defeating Gardner-Webb 12-8. The 'Dogs now stand at 6-7 on the season with a 2-3 mark in conference games.
 
Campbell netted two goals in the opening two minutes of the game to claim an early lead, never surrendering it for the rest of the evening. Aimie Perino opened the scoring for GWU with a goal at the beginning of the second quarter to cut into the Camels' three-goal lead.
 
GWU went on to tally four unanswered to tie the game at five, after a pair of Campbell goals to start the quarter. The Camels broke the tie with a goal less than a minute later to take a one-goal lead into the halftime break.  
 
Coming into the second half, Campbell scored the first three, pushing their lead to four. With 8:35 left in the third quarter, Jada Preston tallied her 100th career goal off an assist by Eilish Gately. The game ended with a score by Ciarra Ashworth off a Perino assist with a minute-and-a-half left.
 
Preston led the team with three goals, while Perino added two. Gately, Ashworth, and Deaver had one each. Preston and Gately also had two assists apiece while Perino had one.
 
Campbell got a big advantage in the game through draw controls, having 16 to the 'Dogs' 8. Maddie Martin led the team with six, and Deaver had two.
 
Lauren Connor led the teams with five groundballs, and Heather Lobas ended with three. Martin and Reese Jones had two each. Perino, Gately, Mackenzie Gallery, Brittany Sherrod, and Jessica Vetter finished with one apiece.
 
Lobas led GWU with three caused turnovers, and Martin had two. Gallery, Connor, and Vetter finished with one apiece.
 
Burke finished the game with 13 saves, her fourth-consecutive game posting double-digit saves.
 
Gardner-Webb has their next game on Saturday, April 16 at 1:00 p.m. hosting Presbyterian (0-4).
