Softball Locks In Victory Over USC Upstate Friday Afternoon

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb softball emerged victorious over USC Upstate on Friday afternoon, recording their sixth conference win of the season.

Records: Gardner-Webb (14-22, 6-13 Big South); USC Upstate (41-6, 15-4 Big South)
Location: Brinkley Stadium (Boiling Springs, N.C.)
HOW IT HAPPENED
All of the Runnin' Bulldogs runs came in the first three innings of action, which was magnified by seven runs in the second (most runs in a single inning and game this season).
Seven different 'Dogs registered a hit in today's contest, as seniors Abbey Goodrum (2-for-3) and Baylee Short (2-for-3) led the way with two hits each. Short also recorded three RBI, while Araceli Pesqueira and Goodrum batted in two apiece.
Andrea Lyon (7-14) took the win in the circle for GWU. Throwing five frames, Lyon gave up just two hits and four runs, while striking out a single Spartan.
UP NEXT
Softball will be back in action tomorrow, wrapping up the USC Upstate series with games at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. After the conclusion of game two there will be a senior ceremony on the field.
