BOILING SPRINGS – For the third time in his career and for the second consecutive year, Chase Thornhill of the men's track and field team will represent Gardner-Webb at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminary Championship May 25-28 at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex on the campus of the Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind.
 
A graduate sprinter for the Runnin' Bulldogs, Thornhill (Perry Hall, Md.) qualified for the men's 400-meter at the NCAA Preliminary Round after placing fifth with a time of 46.69 seconds at the 2022 Big South Outdoor Track and Field Championship on May 11. That mark narrowly missed his career best time of 46.54, a new school record that he set back on April 23 at the Aggie Invitational.
 
The 400-meter first round race is scheduled to take place at 7:25 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25, followed by the quarterfinal slated for Friday, May 27 at 6:50 p.m.
 
The qualifiers in each event next week will advance to the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 8-11 in Eugene, Oregon.
