
Hornaday Named Big South Volleyball Freshman Of The Week

CHARLOTTE – For the first time of her career, Gardner-Webb's Morgan Hornaday has earned a weekly conference honor as the first-year setter was named Big South Volleyball Freshman of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Hornaday (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield-Central HS) had a trio of career performances over the weekend as she set a new career high for assists in all three matches played this past weekend at the Bellarmine Invitational.
After opening the weekend with 35 assists, five digs and two blocks against IUPUI, Hornaday dished out 48 assists with 12 digs and a career-high four blocks, using her second double-double of the season to help propel Gardner-Webb to a thrilling come-from-behind five-set win over Bellarmine Friday night. Returning to the court the following day, Hornaday once against bested her previous mark as she rounded out the tournament with 51 assists and four service aces, both career highs.
Overall, Hornaday's precision at setter helped the Runnin' Bulldogs hit a season-high .288 in the 3-2 win over Bellarmine and .269 in four sets against Seattle, the two best clips for GWU this year.
Gardner-Webb will hit the road for a three of matches at the Troy Invitational this upcoming weekend, beginning with a pair of matches on Friday, September 16 against Jacksonville at noon and Troy at 7 p.m. The Runnin' Bulldogs will then return to face Alabama State on Saturday at noon, with all matches set for play from Trojan Arena in Troy, Alabama.
