ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb tied Big South opponent UNC Asheville 2-2 Saturday Night. Freshman
Sabri Tajiti and Senior
Owen Zaldivar netted a pair of first half goals for the Runnin' Bulldogs, who held a one-goal advantage at the break.
Aymane Sordo and
Theo Godard each registered an assist as Gardner-Webb earned another point in conference play.
Goalkeeper
Javier Ramirez faced 15 shots and claimed six saves. His record went to 4-1-2 in the draw.
"We did a good job overcoming an early goal to take a lead into halftime," said head coach
Tony Setzer. "We felt good about where we were, but Asheville responded well in the second half. We kept them off the board for a while, but they eventually tied it up, and we were unable to add another. All in all, we are happy to earn a point, and we look forward to getting back out there and improving upon our missed opportunities tonight."
Sordo led Gardner-Webb's offense with fives shots while
Omar Boudaka had three. Four Runnin' Bulldogs –
Aristode Youlou,
Jaylen Orr, Tajiti, and Sordo – took one shot each.
The Runnin' Bulldogs continue conference play as they travel to take on Winthrop Wednesday night in Rock Hill, S.C. Start time is set for 7:30 p.m.
