Kotsovolos, Smith Receive Big South Player of the Week Honors

Smith picks up her first Big South award while Kotsovolos records her third
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Following two five-set wins in Big South play to bump Gardner-Webb into third place, Gardner-Webb's Sophia Kotsovolos has been named Big South Libero of the Week and Madison Smith has earned Big South Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
Kotsovolos, a sophomore, combined for 55 digs (5.50 per set), 14 assists and seven service aces in two matches. She recorded 18 digs versus Charleston Southern University and a career-high 37 digs versus Presbyterian College, which is sixth most all-time in a Gardner-Webb match. The Tampa, Florida native also had a career-high six service aces against PC, which is fourth most all-time in a Gardner-Webb match. Kotsovolos also registered a 1.000 reception percentage through both matches on 32 attempts. This is the third time she has earned the award this season and in her career at GWU.
Smith, combined for 42 kills (4.20 per set) and 25 digs in two matches. She recorded 17 kills versus Charleston Southern University and a career-high 25 kills versus Presbyterian College. Smith had a total of 63 attacks in the PC match, which is sixth most all-time in a Gardner-Webb match. She led the 'Dawgs in kills through both matches while picking up double-double performances in both contests. Smith was also a crucial piece in helping the Runnin' Bulldogs hit .234 against CSU, the second-best hitting percentage by GWU in conference this season.
Gardner-Webb hits the road for the conclusion of the regular season beginning on Friday, October 27 against High Point University at 6:00 p.m.
