Runnin' Bulldogs Drop Game Two, Postpone Tiebreaker With Charleston Southern

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Gardner-Webb dropped game two of its series with Charleston Southern 4-2 Saturday.
Adrienne Visintine hit a leadoff single to start the game and Ella Christopher batted her over on a groundout to short. Andrea Lyon hit the first pitch she saw to right field in for a double that scored Visintine.
Charleston Southern scored a run as well to tie the game 1-1 heading into the second.
The next three innings saw no scoring for either team, and it remained even at 1 until the top of the fifth.
In the fifth, Abbey Goodrum hit a leadoff double down the left field line. Annicka McLaughlin singled to left field and moved Goodrum to third. With runners on second and third, Adrienne Visintine reached on a fielder's choice that scored Goodrum and made it 2-1.
In the bottom of the inning, however, the Buccaneers scored two runs to take the lead. They added a run in the sixth and took game two of the series.
Visintine hit a single and had one RBI. Lyon hit a double and also had an RBI. Goodrum hit a double, Emily Garcia hit a single, and McLaughlin added two singles in three at-bats.
Kalyn Kyle started in the circle for Gardner-Webb in game two. She struck out two batters in five innings pitched before Alli Stidham took over in the sixth.
Towards the end of game two, heavy rain started to pick up and left the field in unplayable conditions for game three.
After attempting to wait things out, both sides agreed to reschedule the tiebreaker for a later date.
Gardner-Webb will shift its focus to Winthrop. The Runnin' Bulldogs will host the Eagles for a doubleheader Saturday, April 1 at 3:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M. from Boiling Springs.
